With years of cosmetic dentistry experience, Ringway Dental is able to offer you a more subtle alternative to traditional metal braces
Ceramic braces work in a very similar way to traditional metal braces, but with the added benefit of looking much more subtle and discreet.
Ceramic braces use brackets and archwires to move the teeth, helping realign them into a straighter position. Like traditional braces, they’re fitted to the front of the teeth, but because they’re made of clear ceramic blocks, they’re far less visible and obtrusive than traditional metal braces.
Ceramic braces offer a more discreet way to straighten teeth, yet whilst retaining highly effective results. Some patients seeking orthodontic treatment will be advised that the most subtle methods – such as Invisalign – will not work as effectively to achieve their smile goals. This often depends on the severity of any misalignment the treatment is seeking to correct. We often see certain types of patients requesting ceramic braces, including:
Ceramic braces are a great option for patients in need of orthodontic treatment but who don’t want the inconvenience of traditional metal braces. Not only are ceramic braces far less noticeable than traditional braces, but they can also be a lot more comfortable.
However ceramic braces might not be the best option for those who play high-contact sports or if your braces are at higher risk of breaking. This is because the ceramic material naturally chips more than metal braces do.
We can help advise you on the best route of treatment if you think you are a good candidate for ceramic braces.
The process of having ceramic braces fitted is similar to the processes involved in getting traditional metal braces. The key difference is in the materials used and how they offer a more subtle look that more closely matches the colour of your teeth.
First, you will attend an initial consultation appointment at the practice. This is where our specialised orthodontist will examine your teeth to determine you are a suitable candidate for ceramic braces. They will also take x-rays and scan your teeth to help them devise a bespoke treatment plan. If ceramic braces are not the best option for you, you will likely be told at this initial stage.]
Once the scans have been used to create your individual treatment plan, your fitting appointment will take place. Your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned and dried by the orthodontal specialist, to prepare them for the application of ceramic brackets. We use a special dental adhesive to secure the brackets to teeth, which is eventually removed after your treatment is successful.
Adjustments to your ceramic braces will be made every 4-6 weeks, depending on your tailored treatment plan. Before each adjustment, we will monitor how well your teeth are shifting and identify any outstanding misalignment issues that need to be addressed.
Once you have had your ceramic braces fitted, we will provide you with a few aftercare tips and precautions. These may vary depending on your individual case, however the general aftercare advice we provide is as follows:
Ceramic braces are just as effective as traditional metal braces, and can produce amazing results. We will talk you through all your straightening options during your consultation to find the right treatment for you.
