Emergency Dentist Cheadle, Manchester

If you think you may have a dental emergency and need an appointment, please call our practice immediately on 0161 437 2029. We will be able to offer you emergency dental treatment where necessary and offer you all the advice and guidance you could need to make a full recovery.

An unexpected fall resulting in tooth loss or sudden searing pain could mean that you require emergency dental care.

Here at Ringway Dental, we understand that the unexpected can happen. No one can predict when things are going to go wrong. If something isn’t right and you’re in a lot of pain, you may require emergency dental treatment.

What is classed as a dental emergency?

A dental emergency is the sudden onset of pain to the point where you require immediate attention. Emergency dental appointments help to get you out of pain and minimise the risk of more serious medical issues arising. You may have had a fall and broken a tooth. You may have the sudden onset of swelling around a tooth and be in extreme pain.

The pain and discomfort from an unexpected dental issue warrants a phone call to our practice in Cheadle. Please call us immediately if you notice any of the following:

  • If you have extreme toothache.
  • A painful or bleeding broken tooth.
  • Unexplained bleeding.
  • Swelling anywhere in the mouth, such as around your gums, teeth, or neck. This may be a sign of an abscess.
  • Severe soft tissue injury.
  • An abscess. This is a clear sign of infection, which usually happens in the tooth root or gum. You may notice swelling, pain and sensitivity – this can also spread if the infection is not promptly treated.
  • Signs of infection after a dental procedure or surgery. If you are concerned about any symptoms, do not hesitate to get in touch.
  • A knocked out or dislodged tooth. Emergency dental care is the best way to save your tooth if you have an avulsed (knocked out) or extruded (dislodged) tooth. Keep a knocked out tooth in milk for the best chance of saving it.
  • A broken or chipped tooth.

Emergency dental services

  • Emergency assessment of symptoms. If you have any concerning issues, we have a range of diagnostic techniques to get to the source of the problem.
    • Pain relief. We can administer emergency pain medication or give local anaesthetic injections to help you deal with severe dental pain.
    • Dental abscess treatment. This involves draining the abscess to stop the infection spreading. We can also prescribe antibiotics.
    • Temporary restorative solutions. These include temporary replacements for lost fillings or crowns.
    • Tooth extractions. Where a tooth is beyond saving, we can extract severely painful or infected teeth on an emergency basis.
    • Reimplantation. Depending on its condition and the amount of time that has passed since it fell out, we may be able to reimplant a knocked out tooth.

Managing your dental emergency

Although a dental emergency can cause alarm, there are a few steps you can take while you are waiting to see your dentist. First, we would recommend booking an emergency appointment as soon as possible. You can do this by calling our reception on 0161 437 2029. In the meantime, here are some of the things you can do to help minimise further damage or pain:

  • Extreme toothache. Take over-the-counter analgesics such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.
  • Abscess. Rinse your mouth with a saltwater solution throughout the day. You should never try to pop an abscess due to the risk of the infection spreading further.
  • Broken tooth. If you have the broken section of tooth, keep it in milk to help save it before you can get to the dentist. If you have any pain or swelling, a cold compress can help.
  • Swelling anywhere in the mouth. Any swelling in the mouth is an emergency as it can potentially spread to the throat and airways. If this happens, call 111 or 999 for emergency health care.
  • Knocked out or dislodged tooth. You can try to keep a knocked out tooth in its socket, but keeping it in a container of milk may be easier. This boosts the ability to save the tooth once you do get to us.
