At Ringway Dental, we focus on preventive dentistry to help protect our patients from needing restorative dental treatments like fillings.
However, there are times when a treatment such as a filling is necessary in order to repair a tooth and restore it to full function once again.
A composite filling is used to help fill in a gap or cavity in a tooth that may have appeared due to decay, or in some cases due to injury or simple wear and tear.
Regular dental examinations with us here at Ringway Dental means we may discover the need for a filling before you realise anything is wrong. Some patients may well experience a range of symptoms indicating the need for further treatment.
These symptoms include increased sensitivity in the tooth and pain or difficulty when chewing or biting down. It’s important you contact us here at the practice as soon as you can if you are experiencing any of these symptoms as it is likely you require a filling treatment. This is so we can diagnose and resolve the issue before the cavity gets any larger.
While traditionally fillings have been made of either a precious metal – such as gold or a metal amalgam material, here at Ringway Dental we place white, tooth-coloured fillings by default. These white fillings provide a much more natural-looking finish and are made from a highly durable composite resin that is easy to mould and shape.
Restorative dentistry is a fairly routine treatment involving the application of an anaesthetic – so you don’t feel anything in the area being treated. Once this has taken effect, we will remove the decayed and/or infected part of the tooth and thoroughly clean the area.
A gel is then applied to the tooth, which is used as an adhesive for the composite filling material which is then expertly shaped to fit the tooth. The filling will then be ‘cured’ by a special light that helps to harden it into place.
A filling can be cared for just as you would a natural tooth. We recommend brushing your teeth twice daily for two-minutes with a fluoride toothpaste, as well as flossing regularly and visiting us here for regular checkups.
Preventative dental care and regular checkups are vital in order to avoid tooth decay and cavities. We suggest booking regular dental examinations with us so we can diagnose and resolve the issue early. Please see below a breakdown of our filling treatment cost.
